Backwater Valve-Sewer Endorsement Exemption

Customers who live near an Authority Lift Station ,we strongly advise you to install a Backwater (Backflow) Valve or obtain Sewer Backup Endorsement for your homeowner insurance policy. This is a precautionary measure you as a homeowner can take to safeguard your home from potential flooding and contamination.
A backwater valve is a mechanism installed on a home or commercial property’s main water line that prevents wastewater or sewage from flowing backward into your property during weather-related events or a sewer main blockage. The typical mechanism used for residential properties is a 4” Backwater Valve, this device allows wastewater to exit while preventing reverse flow from municipal sewers. The authorities highly recommend this measure to protect your property from potential flooding, property damage and or health hazards.
Additionally, a Sewer Backup Endorsement is equally important regarding safeguarding your home in the event of a sewer back up or weather-related incident. A Sewer Backup Endorsement can be added to a homeowner insurance policy and ensures that in the event something of this nature does happen your insurance will assist with the damage repair, replacement of damaged personal belongings, removal process, and even temporary housing, depending on insurance policy that is chosen.
Though this is something we as the Slippery Rock Municipal highly recommend, we recognize that this may be something you want to exempt out of. Please fill out our exemption form.
